Seldom Seen Caravan Park

Seldom Seen Caravan Park is a quiet, family run park in the heart of Northumberland, close to the town of Haltwhistle a short distance from the southern boundary of Northumberland National Park. The park is open from 1 March until 31 January and we have a small number of touring pitches available. All of the touring pitches at Seldom Seen Caravan Park are serviced with an electric hook-up, while there are also around 50 privately owned holiday homes on site. Tourists interested in becoming an owner of a holiday home at the site should contact the park owners directly, as availability can be low owing to the popularity of the site and the surrounding area. This is a history rich part of the country and spend your caravan holidays in Northumberland here and you can discover the region's Roman past. Indeed, the Roman fort Vindolanda and the adjacent Roman Army Museum are only about 10 minutes by car from this park, while just five more minutes down the road is the Housesteads Roman Fort. This is Hadrian's Wall Country and if you love walking holidays, you can follow the wall's route for miles and miles, simultaneously soaking in the spectacular views. Seldom Seen Caravan Park might feel quiet and rural, but it is ideally placed for exploring the area, as it is just a short way off the A69. It is also very close to Haltwhistle, a small town that can easily meet your everyday needs during your self catering holidays. There's a post office, a number of shops and supermarkets, plus plenty of pubs, cafes, tearooms and restaurants, so you can enjoy time away from the kitchen, with no need to squabble about the washing up, either. There's also a railway station in Haltwhistle, from where, in under an hour, you can be in Newcastle, or in just half an hour you could be in Carlisle, making it easy for you to leave your car on site and still get about the area. Just a 20-minute drive from this caravan park is Hexham, a market town where you can see Hexham Abbey, which dominates the market place, tour Hexham Old Gaol and maybe place some bets at Hexham Racecourse. Or would you like to visit Scotland? Jump in the car and in 40 minutes you could be in Gretna, Dumfries a little over an hour's drive away. The mind-blowing natural beauty of this part of the country is, of course, what many people come here for, and Seldom Seen Caravan Park is very well place to explore it, as it is located a little way south of the Kielder Forest Park. Discover this park on foot, or go horse riding or mountain biking, or take to the water, either sailing, kayaking or windsurfing. And there's more, as Kielder Forest Park and the neighbouring Northumberland National Park have both been recognised as International Dark Sky Parks, so stargazing can be enjoyed here, too - there are regular events at the Kielder Observatory. Alternatively, head south from this site to the Pennines or the Lake District National Park. We think it's fair to say you are spoilt for choice when staying at Seldom Seen Caravan Park!

Park Description

Yont the Cleugh Caravan Park is a friendly, family run holiday retreat on the northern edge of the Pennines, a short distance from the southern edge of Northumberland National Park. The park welcomes guests with touring caravans and tents, while also offering ownership of a number of static caravans or a range of modern, luxurious, wooden lodges. The park is open from 1 March until 31 October for touring and camping guests, with the season extending up until the end of January for static caravan and lodge owners. The amenities block at Yont the Cleugh Caravan Park includes toilets, basins and showers, plus there's also a laundrette, a dishwashing point and a tourist information area, perfect for guests looking to quickly discover the best places to visit across the Pennines or into Northumberland National Park. Calor Gas is available at the park for guests requiring refills or canister exchanges, while the bar is open throughout the season so you can grab a drink, and it also has a family and games room attached to it. Touring and camping guests are welcome to use the children's play area, which is found in the centre of the static home area of the site, while the ball games field is also open to all and is adjacent to the camping and touring area. The park is ideally situated for exploring many of the incredible outdoor attractions of the north, while a wide range of activities are also offered close by. Numerous waterways close by are suitable for fishing, though guests happy to travel with their equipment often head through Northumberland National Park to Kielder Water reservoir, or north west to the Lake District. Pony trekking is a popular - and often the quickest - way to see as much of the countryside as possible, and is available from Allendale Town or Hexham, which are both found nearby. Half or full day tours around the area are offered, while there is also the option of taking lessons for those just looking to try something new. The nearest town, Haltwhistle, is just a short, about 15-minute drive to the north, and is a great place to head in search of things to do. There is a wonderful golf course in the town, while there's a leisure centre that houses a soft play area for children, in a sports hall also suitable for tennis, squash and badminton. Mountain biking is popular in the area, with cycle hire available from numerous locations and some great routes both across the hilly landscape as well as the flatter moorland areas nearby. Of course, this is also a fantastic part of the world to visit if you love walking holidays, with Kielder Forest Park, the Northumberland National Park, the Pennines, the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District all relatively near by. And it's not just walking you can enjoy. Many other activities can be enjoyed, both by beginners and those more experienced, including sailing, windsurfing, geocaching, climbing, fell running and kayaking. If you'd like to visit Carlisle on your camping and caravan holidays, it is only about a 40-minute drive from this park, while Hexham is about half an hour away. So if you choose Yont the Cleugh Caravan Park as your base from which to explore Northumberland, you definitely will not be short of things to do.
