Oxwich Camping Park
Visit south Wales on your camping holidays and pitch at Oxwich Camping Park. It is a beautiful holiday retreat, close to the coast in the unspoiled heart of the Gower Peninsula. Within a mile of this holiday park there is a shop where guests can stock up on groceries and other essentials, while pubs and restaurants can also be found close by, most of which are family friendly and don't require prior booking to get something to eat or drink - why not treat yourself to a night off cooking on your holidays? Since 2012, the 870-mile Wales Coast Path has been open. It is the first uninterrupted route along a national coast anywhere in the world, showcasing beaches and estuaries, hills and woodlands - and more. Whether on two wheels or two feet, you can follow this path and enjoy the famous and often magnificent Welsh coast. A short distance from Oxwich Camping Park guests can enjoy a choice of some of the best beaches anywhere in the United Kingdom, with rugged cliffs and golden sands combining to amazing effect. While the beaches here are ideal for swimming and paddling, a range of water sports are also available, with surfing and water skiing among the activities offered at various points around the Gower Peninsula. In addition, there are numerous locations nearby where fishing can be enjoyed, including at the beach as well as in the rivers, streams and lakes that populate the area. While the Gower Peninsula is a wonderful place for being at one with nature and the outdoors, some of the most vibrant towns and cities of South Wales are just a short distance away from this campsite, too. Guests can be in Swansea within an hour, whether they take the car or public transport, and there are many great things about the city, including cultural and entertainment attractions, but it is definitely worth trying to sample the atmosphere if the football or rugby teams are playing at home. Rather closer to this campsite is Oxwich Castle - or head west to The Mumbles, about a 30-minute drive away. Skysea Caravan & Camping Site
Carreglwyd Camping and Caravan Park is a popular, family friendly holiday park right next to the beach. The park overlooks the beautiful village and bay of Port Eynon, and is surrounded by dramatic cliffs and stunning beaches to create an idyllic holiday location. The park also has a four-pennant rating from the AA. This 15-acre campsite has 400 pitches spread across five fields, with motorhomes, campervans, touring caravans and tents all accommodated at the site. Electric hook-ups are available, however these cannot be booked in advance and they'll be allocated on arrival, depending on availability. Static caravans for sale are also available at the park, perfect for families that want to make this pretty part of Wales their permanent holiday retreat. On site, you will find two amenities blocks. These house a range of facilities including toilets, basins, showers and family shower rooms, plus dishwashing areas and a laundrette. There is also a convenience store and off licence found on the park so guests can stock up on their holiday and camping accessories and essentials, while gas canisters can also be exchanged here. Wi-Fi is available, too. Carreglwyd Camping and Caravan Park leads directly onto the local beach - what more could you want on your camping and caravan holidays in Wales?! The beach is well patrolled by lifeguards during the summer months and is perfect for paddling and swimming. Fishing can be enjoyed on the beach, too, while guests can also take advantage of great spots around the whole of the Gower Peninsula. Indeed, this area as a whole is great for those who like walking and cycling, as there's so much to see in this lovely and largely unspoiled region. Hobby walkers and hikers can join the Welsh coastal path from the park, or simply head out into the countryside and make their own way around the area. Carreglwyd Camping and Caravan Park is on the edge of the village of Port Eynon, and here you'll find a range of local amenities, including shops and welcoming pubs, cafés and restaurants. Swansea is an 18-mile scenic drive either along the coast or through the country, and can be reached in 40 minutes to an hour depending on whether you drive or leave your car or motorhome on site and take the bus, which runs to the city from Port Eynon. Swansea is very much a modern city with attractions for the whole family to enjoy, including museums and art galleries along with theme parks, leisure centres and so much more. Swansea also acts as a gateway for those looking to visit Neath and Port Talbot, popular south Wales towns. You're also just a 45-minute drive from Llanelli, the largest town in Carmarthenshire. The Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust Llanelli Wetland Centre is on the outskirts of Llanelli is well worth some of your time - here you can hunt for bugs, see amazing, colourful flamingos and much more. Pitton Cross Caravan & Camping Park
Only 16 miles from Swansea and on the Gower Peninsula, Pitton Cross Caravan and Camping Park is ideal for walking, surfing, hang-gliding and swimming. It's also close to the Welsh Coastal Path. This family run campsite is open all year and has 30 flat hardstanding pitches - and if you want an electric hook-up, say when booking, especially in the summer months. Motorhomes, campervans, touring caravans and tents are all welcome. This is also a dog friendly campsite, although there's a small extra charge for dogs. Guests are asked to keep their four-legged friends under control and to clear up after them. There are separate shower and toilet blocks for men and women, plus disabled facilities and a parent and toddler room. The campsite has a laundrette and a place to do your washing up. There's also a shop on site that sells groceries and other everyday essentials, as well as fishing equipment, camping and caravan accessories, Welsh gifts, walking sticks and much more - it sells kites, too, and Gower was recently voted the best place for kite-flying in the UK. There's a tourist information point at the shop as well. Children staying at Pitton Cross Caravan and Camping Park will enjoy time at the playground. There's plenty to see and do on the Gower Peninsula, including a number of beaches. Enjoy the golden sands of Rhossili, or head to Mewslade, which you can reach from Pitton Cross Caravan and Camping Park using a footpath across the fields, and Fall Bay. Or how about Ramsgrove, a rocky cove, where even in the summer you can go and have it to yourself, if you're lucky! On your camping, motorhome and caravan holidays in Wales, the natural beauty of the area gives you lots of things to see and do. Indeed, the Gower Peninsula was the very first place in the UK to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and it really is a glorious, unspoilt place. Go walking, cycling, horse riding, bird watching, fishing, climbing or, as we said before, hang-gliding, swimming and surfing. Whatever you do, make sure you enjoy the lovely, local environment. The Mumbles is also about half an hour from this campsite. You're about a 40-minute drive from Swansea at Pitton Cross Caravan and Camping Park, so despite the perhaps remote feel of Gower, everything you can need is nearby. Swansea of course has lots of shops, as well as bars, restaurants and pubs. The birthplace of Dylan Thomas is worth a visit, as is the marina. Rather nearer, around 20 minutes from this site, is the village of Llangennith, very much a place for surfers, but you might enjoy a drink at the King's Head. There's also Oxwich, a quarter of an hour from this campsite. Here you will find the popular Oxwich Bay, the parish church of St Illtyd's and a castle. Weobley Castle is just 20 minutes from this campsite, a fortified manor house that overlooks the Loughor estuary. It is open to the public, however dogs are not permitted here.
