Horsley Camping and Caravanning Club Site

We were welcomed with the words "this was not a place for people like us". Now... we are still wondering what that means. We are a sportive couple in our 30's with a well behaved border collie and a well maintained camper fiat ducato from 2011. We felt soo bad after our visit, as the lady kept on giving reasons why we could not stay. I would not be in our budget (how could she possibly know and why did she made this judgment?!), weekends were only min 2 nights (it was saturday around 6pm, so the open spaces would not be filled in anymore), the grass was wet and we would break it (when is the grass not wet in England?!), we were not going to be allowed to use the toilets/showers (we have our own in the camper, thank you, but sometimes it does is more comfortable to shower in a real shower ;)). Anyway, it was a real eyeopener of the other side of England... This kind of mentallity makes me really sad. I hope next time the staff don't use clients to work out their frustrations... it was a sad sad sad woman.

Horsley is a large enough caravan and camping park. The members of staff are very polite and helpful. Where is it? Coming off the A3 into East Horsley paints the picture of what this site is going to be like, peaceful and tranquil. The turning is signposted on the turn, so be on the lookout. Our satnav new exactly where it is. On entry you drive up this long drive and the park is at the end of the single lane drive (with passing points). Once at the end of this drive you will see the reception building on the left, there are toilets in the building if you need to go after a long drive! Upon check which was midday, we could not find anyone, we then found a sign stating the staff our cleaning one of the toilet blocks, which was good timing, but it did not matter. On arrival? In the reception there was a small fridge and shelves stocked with a variety of goods to buy. The shop was only opened limited times, about 0900 ti 1030 and 1630 to 1800, these times are not accurate as this is from memory. The staff then gave me a choice of pitch, we where in the far field in the corner, nicely sheltered. Pitches. There is a choice of pitches from around the lake in the middle with hook up. Or proper camping in a very well sheltered field with no hook ups, or next to the utility building, again with no electricity. There is also in another sheltered field with electric hook ups. All the fields have grey water and drinking facilities. The Chemical loo disposal points are not too far away either. What to do on site. There is a reception hall with table tennis. Fishing is allowed in the lake (with a fishing license etc). There is a nice dog walk that leads onto a conservation area, our dog loved this. This is an relaxingsite What to do in the area. Brooklands Motor Museum http://www.brooklandsmuseum.com/ We never managed to make it to Brooklands, as it was raining, but I have been there as a child. Lots of aircraft and cars to see, even a ride on Concorde!!!! See the website as there are special deals. RHS Wisley http://www.rhs.org.uk/WhatsOn/gardens/wisley/index.asp Peaceful, beautiful, walking recreation area. Plenty to see for all ages, with fish, ducks and more Brockets Farm Park http://www.bockettsfarm.co.uk/ Here you can see lambs, pigs, sheep, goats, cows donkeys and horses, with also unusual animals, and ducks geese etc. A must see especially for the kids. My kids enjoyed this so much. Dapdune Wharf National Trust. Please do not make the mistake of wanting to go on a Wednesday. The wharf is open from 11.00 onwards and shut on Wednesdays.
